Wow this is great I was thinking there needed to be a tribe like this and went searching for one.
I'd love to discuss Stratagies and Game ballance and playability of Historic games and why they fell out of use.
This is perfect for me because I make old gameboards of ancient games:

I'm a big fan of Tafl and noticed you didn't have a gameboard pic of one. I do like the old art depicting players obviously playing the game. Very nice. I was wondering where that art was from. Is it a carving?

Tue, June 28, 2005 - 1:14 PMGreat, thanks for the feedback! I knew there were others like me out there somewhere. As for the image, it's from a terrific page entitled "Games of the Viking & Anglo-Saxon Age", found at mahan.wonkwang.ac.kr/link/me...mes.htm. It's depicted on the Ockelbo Stone in Sweden. I assume it's a carving, but the zoom link is broken, alas.
Your gameboard is beautiful! I make gameboards on fabric, too! One of these days I'll get some pictures up. Please post as many pictures as you like...my apologies for not having a tafl board shot...I'll remedy that shortly.
As for play/balance/strategy, these certainly all fall within the tribe's scope. My expertise, however, is more in the history and design of the games...so we'll have to get more members! I'm trying to figure out how to get the word out without spamming. If you have any suggestions...
